Modern Design: Incandescent Light Bulb Oil Lamp (2 pics)

Sometimes my favorite designs are incredibly simple. In a clever twist of art and design, Brooklyn industrial designer Sergio Silva “transforms a modern object into the very thing it was created to replace.”

Using old incandescent light bulbs, non-flammable paraffin wax, and a wick, Silva creates a striking set of oil lamps. Thanks to a strong spherical magnet inside the bulb, which attracts a steel component in the acrylic base, the bulbs are able to balance at an uncanny angle.
