Photographer Nathaniel Wise uses a camera as a means to explore our beautiful planet. He is currently living life on the road in the Pacific Northwest (PNW) region of the US and capturing breathtaking sights of mountains, forests, and lakes along the way. One of his most memorable images is a scene of Diablo Lake Overlook in Washington's North Cascades National Park. There, he saw the bluest water he’s ever seen—an electric cerulean that vibrates against the backdrop of deep emerald evergreen trees.

The Diablo Lake Overlook is a popular locale for both photographers and travelers because of its unusual coloring. “It's a striking blue/green color due to the glacial runoff from the surrounding peaks,” Wise explains to My Modern Met, “and one of the most vibrant lakes I've ever witnessed.” Using his Nikon D800, his approach to the composition was unconventional. “Most people opt to go wide and capture the entire scene (and rightfully so, it's gorgeous),” he says, “but I enjoyed a telephoto approach, isolating the small sections of beauty around me.” A Nikon 70-200mm f/4 lens helped him achieve this image.

Wise’s photo of Diablo Lake is just one of the gorgeous pictures he’s taken around the PNW. Scroll down for more spectacular images of this beautiful blue body of water. You can also follow him on Instagram and visit his website to see even more of his travels in Washington, Oregon, and beyond.
