From optical illusions to spooky transformations, we’ve seen many artists use the human face as their canvas to create incredible works of art. While many of those works will make you do a double take, Norway-based artist Rita Synnøve Sharma’s eye-catching makeup art might just make you stop and stare in awe. She uses neon makeup to paint her own face with imaginative designs that highlight both her creativity and skill. From glittering galaxies to underwater worlds, each colorful work of art beautifully glows from her skin like magic.
Many of Sharma’s mesmerizing looks are inspired by nature. For one amethyst-inspired look, the artist transformed her face and neck into a dazzling pink crystal. And in another, she paints with swirls of colorful pigments to recreate the aurora borealis. Each themed look is masterfully rendered in incredible detail. For one particular outer-space design, Sharma even wears astronaut-themed clothing to complete the look.
Luckily, Sharma’s creativity doesn’t stop there. She also creates story-driven YouTube tutorials inspired by ancient folklore, as well as her own culture and experiences. In one video, the talented artist reveals that she used to suffer from an eating disorder, but the power of makeup helped her battle her illness. “I had an eating disorder. I had to change. I had to break the silence,” she reveals. “True happiness comes from within. And makeup artistry gave me the power to express myself. With makeup, I can show my feelings—my ups and downs, my joy and excitement, my creativity, my friends, my hopes, and my dreams.” Sharma shows that creativity is a powerful tool that can help to give you confidence. She explains, “Makeup helped me embrace my true self and believe in who I am.”
