Terrifying Photo of an Angry Lion Just Moments Before it Charged

Naturalist and photographer Atif Saeed risked the wrath of a lion to capture this spectacular shot of the big cat snarling angrily just moments before he rushed at the photographer. Titled The Ghost and the Darkness, the photo has an incredible backstory behind it. According to Saeed, he had been driving through a safari park in Lahore, Pakistan in 2012 when he spotted a lion a short distance away.

Rare, Poignant Photos of Frida Kahlo During the Last Years of Her Life

German-born French photographer Gisle Freund (1908-2000) offers a rare look at Frida Kahlo in intimate snapshots taken of the celebrated artist during some of the last years of her life. Freund, who fled Nazi Germany in 1933 and later became known as one of the greatest portraits photographers in history, met the legendary couple Kahlo and Diego Rivera when she embarked on a two-week trip to Mexico in 1950.

Adorable Orphaned Baby Bats Cared for by Australian Bat Clinic

File this under “cutest thing we've ever seen.” These orphaned baby bats, swaddled in cozy blankets and fed milk in baby bottles, are the incredibly adorable residents of the Australian Bat Clinic & Wildlife Trauma Centre in eastern Australia's Gold Coast Hinterland. Volunteers and employees at the clinic work tirelessly to care for sick, injured, and orphaned bats whose mothers have died, as well as other wildlife in need of assistance.

French artist Mlle Hipolyte's colorful paper masks feature intricate, origami-like designs to form whimsical animal faces that people can really wear. Feathery paper triangles stacked in layers create a rich texture that resembles fur. The artist skillfully chooses and arranges slips of complementary shades of paper to create a sense of depth. The masks include some of the most adorable and beloved creatures in the animal kingdom, such as raccoons, foxes and tigers.
