Couple’s Extraordinary 550,000-Mile Road Trip Across 177 Countries Over 26 Years

In 1988, before the fall of the Berlin Wall, Gunther Holtorf and his wife Christine set off on a monumental road trip that would span 26 years, 177 countries, and nearly 550,000 miles (885,139 km). The couple originally planned to spend just 18 months touring the African countryside in their Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen named “Otto,” but a year and a half eventually turned into a continuous voyage interrupted by only a few periods of rest.

Visually Stunning Juxtaposition of Wood and Stone with Plexiglass

Netherlands-based artist Diederik Storms draws upon the mysteries of nature to create his captivating collection of organic sculptures. He uses raw substances, like stones and petrified wood, combined with plexiglass to create a visually exciting juxtaposition of materials. He says, “Nature, more than anything else, confronts me with the question of what is invisibly present behind all that is alive.” To create each piece, he sculpts the sections together using milling, chafing, and carving techniques.

Powerful Laser Rainbow Beams Onto Toronto’s CN Tower

During the past few nights, residents of Toronto have been mesmerized by a powerful laser rainbow beaming across the night sky.  The high specification laser light projection starts in Chinatown and lands squarely onto Toronto's iconic CN Tower, the tallest free-standing structure in the Western Hemisphere.  According to New York and Berlin-based artist Yvette Mattern, the laser rainbow is a powerful and luminescent symbol of peace and hope that embraces geographical and social diversity.
