Bleached Denim Collages Recreate the American West, Both Its Past and Future

Artist Nick Doyle creates collaged denim works that symbolize the American West. In his solo exhibition titled Collective Hallucinations, Doyle explores the mythologies inherent in the fabric, its representation of Americana, and its associations with workwear and masculinity. He does this, in part, by creating collages of aviator sunglasses, desert cacti, and mountainous landscapes. They recall the past, but with his addition of AI, he’s also leaning into the future.

Giant Sleeping Gaia Sculpture Rests Among Wildflowers at Chelsea Flower Show’s Garden of the Year

Those lucky enough to visit this year’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show in London discovered the award-winning Garden of the Year by Sarah Eberle. The enchanting display, titled On the Edge, featured a giant figure of Gaia, or Mother Nature, sleeping among the tall grass and wildflowers. The stunning sculpture was a collaborative effort, created by artists Tom Hare and Tim Wood.

Architects Reimagine a Lost Belgian Abbey as a Transparent Steel Cathedral

For centuries, the church at Herkenrode Abbey stood as one of Belgium’s most important religious landmarks. The Gothic structure formed the heart of a wealthy Cistercian abbey near Hasselt before war, fire, and demolition erased it from the landscape. Today, almost nothing of the original church survives. Belgian architectural practice Gijs Van Vaerenbergh has now revived the vanished structure in a striking new form.
