Wool Artist Recreates Over 40 Colorful Sea Slug Species as Whimsical Felt Sculptures

The ocean is full of weird and wonderful creatures, but the nudibranch, also known as sea slugs, are arguably one of the most whimsical. There are over 3,000 known species of the colorful marine molluscs, each with their own psychedelic appearance and quirky behaviors. Inspired by the many shapes, patterns, and colors of sea slugs, Tbilisi, Georgia-based wool artist Arina Borevich creates incredibly cute hand-felted replicas that fit in the palm of your hand.

NPR’s Tiny Desk Concerts have introduced talented musicians from around the world to new audiences. Its appeal is not only due to the stripped down versions artists play, but also the seemingly ordinary setting of a cramped office space. Drawing inspiration from this format, Fiesta Fresh Market, a Delaware grocery store, hoped to give local artists a similarly ordinary stage—one next to the produce section. The towering giant sequoia has long defined the forests of California. These ancient trees can soar more than 300 feet tall and live for over 3,000 years, making them among the largest and longest-living organisms on Earth. Now, conservationists are giving their descendants a surprising new home in Detroit, Michigan. Volunteers in Detroit have begun planting hundreds of giant sequoia saplings throughout the city.
