Van Dyck Painting Bought for $600 Sells for $3 Million at Auction

In the late-20th century, someone discovered a mysterious, beautiful painting in a farm shed in Kinderhook, New York. The oil on wood work depicted a slouched, nude man. Purchased originally for $600, the painting was later identified by scholars as an early study by Anthony van Dyck in preparation for his work St. Jerome. With this recognition, it recently sold for an impressive $3.1 million at a Sotheby's auction.

María López and Javier de Riba are the creative force behind the Spain-based art collective Reskate Studio. Originally formed to upcycle discarded skateboards, they have since applied their unique vision to a range of disciplines. One of their most recent endeavors is called the Harreman Project, from the Basque word for relationship. Inspired by reminiscence and etymology, it features striking murals that light up after dark.
