Owl Whose Own Eggs Didn’t Hatch Adopts Two Orphaned Owlets

Luna the owl has wanted to be a mom for a long time, but the affectionate bird hasn’t had the best of luck. Over the last two years, she’s tried—with little success—to start a family of her own. “Not only did her eggs fail to hatch this year, but she also lost her clutch last year,” says British wildlife artist and rehabilitator Robert E. Fuller, explaining Luna’s difficult journey to motherhood.

Artist Debora Lombardi shines a light on flowers in her new photo series—literally. The Italy-based designer and photographer uses ultraviolet light to capture the unseen beauty of these plants, revealing dazzling colors and patterns that are otherwise invisible during the daytime. Lombardi began this project at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. With just a few tools and plants collected from the condominium garden, she was able to tap into a new world.
