Explore the Early 20-Side Icosahedron Dice That Were Tossed in Ancient Rome

Dice—and their attendant games of chance—have an ancient history. Dice probably originated with marked knucklebones which were used to cast lots and interpret the divine. These relics are clearly recognizable to the modern eye as dice, but other multi-faceted versions might seem a bit befuddling. Polyhedrons (multi-sided solids) inscribed with Greek or Roman characters were common and likely used in conjunction with oracles. Polyhedral dice include the standard six-face die.

Amazing Detailed Dioramas Look Like Live-in Corners of Urban Environments

Palm-sized shops look real enough to visit in the work by Abdulrahman Eid. Based in Turkey, this diorama artist specializes in bringing lived-in corners of cities to life. He sculpts and paints detailed replicas of architectural structures as well as the many objects that go along with them. Many of Eid's dioramas capture a façade of a building with a small open storefront below.

Artist Celebrates Smiling Pups In Adorable Needle-Felted Pet Portraits

If you own a pet, you're probably guilty of taking a couple of dozen photos of your fur baby. Well, one UK-based artist transforms people's pics of your pups into miniature sculptures. Laura from Laura's Felt Dogs renders real-life dogs as realistic and adorable needle-felt sculptures. Needle felting involves “stabbing” pieces of wool until they look together and produce a firm, round shape.
