Artist Makes Cardboard Cutouts Come to Life By Placing Them Against Sunsets

Similar to shadow puppets in old theater shows, writer and Emmy award-winning TV producer John Marshall creates silhouette art from cardboard. His Sunset Selfies series features the artist himself playfully interacting with his hand-cut characters and objects. Each DIY scene is photographed against the sunset, allowing it to playfully come to life in fantastical detail. Marshall’s project began when he spent the summer living in a small cabin on Frye Island in Maine.

Thanks to a clever photo project, Artemyeva was able to relive memories of her youth as she created a series that juxtaposed ballet dancers and flowers. The innovative black and white photographs place graceful dancers next to blooms that appear to mimic their movements.

Architect Eisa Ghasemain of Khesht Architecture Studio has created a staircase that is awe-inspiring in both its function and striking minimalist aesthetic. The compact design has an overall silhouette that is reminiscent of a strand of DNA as it flows from one story of the building to another.

How Raoul Dufy’s Colorful Art Captured the “Joie de Vivre” of 20th-Century France

In the 1870s, forward-thinking artists in France set modern art into motion when they established Impressionism. By the turn of the 20th century, several modernist movements were in full-swing across the country, including Art Nouveau and Post-Impressionism. By 1905, Fauvism had also found its footing, putting color-minded artists like Raoul Dufy on the map. While Dufy got his start as a watercolorist, his polychromatic practice evolved over his 50-year-career.
