Designer Stelios Mousarris fuses whimsy with function in his growing collection of contemporary furniture. For years, we’ve marveled over his ability to incorporate play into the structural elements of coffee tables and dining tables. Inspired by the likes of films and Saturday morning cartoons, Mousarris surprises and delights us with his imagination. It's a welcome point of view, as these types of pieces can be otherwise very stiff and formal.
To make his visions come to life, Mousarris often uses 3D printing technology in at least one part of the construction. His Plexus Ping Pong Table, for instance, used 3D printing to make a solid steel base shaped like a mountain terrain you'd find on a map. Its organic form, along with the chosen material, provides stability that can “withstand even your strongest ping pong shots.” Likewise, his City Cube (Black Edition) utilizes 3D printing to produce its most striking characteristic—skyscrapers and buildings that are pointing in multiple directions to create a nest-like appearance of the urban environment.
Because of their unique design, Mousarris’ pieces are produced in limited editions of 25 or less. Scroll down to see the incredible furniture design and learn about purchasing his work through his website.
