13-Year-Old Boy Builds Custom 3D-Printed Wheelchair for a Little Girl

Utah-based teen Zac Waters loves 3D printing. The 13-year-old has been experimenting, designing, and printing various objects at home for a while, but recently decided to use his technical skills to help others. Over the summer, he spent around 300 hours creating a custom 3D-printed custom wheelchair for a 21-month-old girl. Zac was inspired after discovering MakeGood on YouTube, a nonprofit organization that 3D prints assistive devices for people with disabilities around the world.

Meet the Women Over 64 Cleaning Up Cape Cod’s Ponds One Dive at a Time

Every summer, a group of women over 64 dives into Cape Cod’s freshwater ponds to remove trash from the bottom. The Old Ladies Against Underwater Garbage, or OLAUG, estimates that it has removed 6,000 pounds of garbage since forming in 2017. The group now has about 30 members and organizes around 20 formal dives each year, with each cleanup requiring careful planning around water conditions, wildlife, and safety.

Lifeguards perform a perilous yet vital duty, risking their own wellbeing to rescue anyone who needs help. The danger then increases when the ocean is involved, as these brave first responders have to deal with the sheer force of the waves. These kind of rescues are hard on experienced lifeguards, so it’s impressive how Ryder Williams, a 16-year-old rookie (pictured left above), pulled off his very first rescue by braving the waves.
