100-Year-Old Photos Capture Authentic Daily Life in Japan

These rare shots of vintage Japan during 1908 are thanks to the acute artistic eye of Arnold Genthe. The German-born American scholar honed his photographic talent on the streets, spending his off-time roaming through his city with a partially hidden camera in attempts of recording memorable moments. This intriguing series was collected during a 6-month visit to Japan, during which Genthe managed to share his perspective of the vivid daily experiences of its local citizens.

Figurative Papier-Mâché Lamp Sculptures Illuminate a Room with Ethereal Elegance

For nearly 10 years, Sophie Mouton-Perrat and Frédéric Guibrunet have combined soft lighting with delicate paper craft to create ethereal sculptures. Working under the name Papier à êtres, the duo uses the papier mâché technique to construct life-sized women clad in elegant, billowing gowns that double as lamps. The top portion of the unconventional, all-white lantern features the ladies’ upper bodies while their pleated skirts illuminate the space.

Woman Recreates Classic Works of Art Inside Delicately Cracked Eggshells

Turkish artist Sreyya Noyan expertly transforms eggs by carefully cracking a window into them, removing the egg, and painting recreations of world-renowned works of art on the inside of the shells. Using precise detail brushes, drawing pens, and an incredible amount of care, Noyan is able to utilize an egg's exterior as a fragile canvas to create her eggshell paintings.

Hilarious Science Teacher Adds Creative Additions to Students’ Doodles

Imgur user Squeezymo, a former eighth and ninth grade science teacher in Bangkok, Thailand, included more than just grades on his students’ work. The educator noticed that his kids drew a lot on their papers. So, he established a rule in the classroom: if you draw something, the teacher will add to it, too. Original drawings are in pencil and Squeezymo’s handiwork is in red pen. As you might imagine, this created some hilarious mashups.
