While Zagreb, Croatia’s capital, doesn’t boast the beautiful beaches or picturesque waterfalls that the country is known for, Mother Nature is still alive and well in this bustling metropolis. On Sunday, city dwellers were treated to mild temperatures, sunny skies, and, as night fell, a particularly striking sunset.

As the sun started to set, the sky turned a delightful—albeit typical—shade of gold. Soon, however, the pale yellows and pastel oranges turned to fiery reds, bright pinks, and deep purples. The town took notice, and many flocked to its streets, squares, and parks to capture—and, of course, share—the stunning sunset. Instagram and Twitter were flooded with photographs, labeled with creative hashtags like #powerofnature, #croatiafullofmagic, and #croatiafulloflife.

Although wintertime may not seem like the ideal time to visit a seaside city, Zagreb’s meteorological marvel proves that some places truly are beautiful all year round.

You can find more awe-inspiring shots of Sunday's sky (as well as other photos of Zagreb) on Instagram.
