Modern Museum Embedded in Italy’s Mountains

World-renowned architect Zaha Hadid has been in the news so much lately with all her current and future projects…and for good reason! Her firm has just released another amazing design for one of their newest commissions – the Messner Mountain Museum at Plan de Corones in Italy. Hadid was chosen as the final designer for this series of mountaintop museums and her concept aims to become one with nature in the Mount Kronplatz region.

The structure will literally tunnel through the mountaintop and create a viewing platform for the beautiful Italian Dolomites. The overall appearance will be a soft organic-shaped building with an impressive glass entryway. Built into a rock, the museum will remain at a constant internal temperature and receive a large amount of natural light through both the entrance and overlook. It will house three levels of ever-changing shows, an auditorium, presentation area, and a permanent collection of tools and images from world famous mountaineer Reinhold Messner. The museum is slated to be completed in Summer 2014.
