Photographer Amanda Jones beautifully documents the lives of dogs in her book Dog Years: Faithful Friends Then & Now. The artist has been working with animals for over 20 years and, during this time, she's photographed dogs who are at completely different stages in their lives. Some are young puppies, while others are older and wiser. This age-related transformation is what inspired her to create a heartwarming book of canine portraits.
“A dog's life is a span that marks so much in our lives,” Jones wrote in her book. “We get them as puppies and they are cute and goofy. Then we teach them and they learn to behave better (sometimes). The connection over time deepens, and as our dogs age, the tides shift and we tend to learn more from their teachings. Life really is better with a dog by your side.”
Each of Jones's portraits perfectly captures a dog's personality as the years go by. While the pups have undergone many physical changes, they've still retained a lovable gleam in their eyes. Among these dogs is the photographer's own dachshund Lily, who served as a muse during the creation of Dog Years. Whether she's photographing her own dog or someone else's beloved pet, Jones's love for all animals shines through in each stunning piece that she creates.
