Architects Lus Rebelo de Andrade and Tiago Rebelo de Andrade have recently designed and built two new additions, known as Tree Snake Houses, to the Pedras Salgadas Eco Resort in Portugal. These single-room cabins, prefabricated and assembled on site in order to minimize the impact on the nature park, are situated on stilts high in the tree tops.
Accessible via a long ramp, these tree houses make a charming and comfortable space that offers visitors to the popular spa and nature park a sustainable way to relax and reconnect with the environment. Each cabin uses natural materials and provides plenty of natural light, seamlessly integrating the architecture with its surroundings.
The project, which was designed in partnership with the Modular System Company, states: “The idea was to get an object that would be far away from the orthogonality and from pre-established concepts associated with the modular construction. The characteristic design associated with the slates and the wood on the base suggests a snake gliding between the trees. Like a wild animal in its natural habitat, the house suddenly appears in the visual field of the observer.”
