Pittsburgh-based 4moms is getting ready to launch their newest product – the Origami – the worlds first power folding baby stroller. With the goal of designing better baby products for both new and old mothers, the company feels that the Origami is “everything a stroller should be.”
While different from the look of conventional strollers, the Origami “folds like nothing else and should therefore look like nothing else,” says a member of the product development team. Folding the stroller requires a two-step activation process (though it can be folded manually if desired) and no, it won't accidentally fold up on the baby. This is due to multiple sensors built throughout the design that prevent it from folding if there is a child or obstruction in the seat.
Other features of the Origami include an LCD interface that displays a thermometer, speedometer, odometer, battery indicator, and child safety sensor. Another revolutionary aspect is the built-in generator that recharges the battery as you walk. To take advantage of this, there is even a port for charging your cell-phone. Pathway lights for walking in either lowlight or darkness, and a simple one-step brake system are also featured in the design, as well as plenty of storage space, and an independent four-wheel suspension system that allows for a smooth ride.
Of course, all these magnificent features come at a slight premium. With a price-tag of $850 for its January release date, this stroller may be a slight splurge. I've gotten to experience the Origami up close and can say it's quite the amazing stroller.
