Surf culture is perhaps not usually associated with fine, classical art, but one company has combined the unlikely elements in a fantastic, limited-edition line of surfboard designs inspired by European art.
One design set is a three-part rendition of the 15th-Century, wool-and-silk Dutch tapestry, The Lady and the Unicorn, which hangs in Paris' Cluny Museum. Each surfboard showcases rich red-and-gold hues that are true to the original tapestry topped with a glossy, waxed finish.
The second design set is based on The Garden of Earthly Delights, originally painted on three oak panels around 1500. The boards display vibrant greens and blues characteristic of the famous painting, along with the detailed menagerie of animals supposedly set at the creation of the world.
A three-board set sells from the French creator Boom-Art for 5,600 Euros. A single board is listed at 1,890 Euros.
