When is a bouquet of flowers not a bouquet of flowers? When it’s a cake, of course! Over the past year, we've been blown away by the artistic possibilities of sweet treats. From goth-inspired nuptials to confections with a painterly twist, it seems that the sky’s the limit when it comes to decorating desserts. Our favorite iteration of this tasty trend, however, is the buttercream flower cake. Seoul-based pastry chef Atelier Soo is the latest person to wow us with it; her ability to sculpt realistic floral creations is awe-inspiring.
Each of Soo's single-tiered cakes are loaded with a bevy of beautiful blooms that display an impressive array of colors, sizes, and textures. With such thoughtful arrangement and exquisite petal construction, the lifelike flowers hardly resemble food at all. But with sweet ingredients like butter, confectioners sugar, and whipping cream, you’ll want to take a bite of these cake flowers.
The desserts pictured on Soo’s popular Instagram are often produced for special events like weddings. She does, however, pass her expertise along to others and teaches classes on how to craft your own stunning buttercream flower cake.
