Sara Barnes

Sara Barnes is a Staff Editor at My Modern Met and Manager of My Modern Met Store. She is a graduate of the Maryland Institute College of Art where she earned her BFA in Illustration and MFA in Illustration Practice. Sara is also an embroidery illustrator and writer living in Seattle, Washington. She runs Bear&Bean, a studio where she stitches pet portraits and other beloved creatures. She chronicles the creativity of others through her website Brown Paper Bag and newsletter, Orts. Her latest book is Threads of Treasure: How to Make, Mend, and Find Meaning Through Thread, published in 2014. Sara’s work has been recognized in Be Creative With Workbox, Embroidery Magazine, American Illustration, on Iron and Wine’s album Beast Epic, among others. When she’s not stitching or writing, Sara enjoys planning things that bring together the craft community. She is the co-founder of Camp Craftaway, a day camp for crafty adults with hands-on workshops in the Seattle area.

Photographer Documents How People Live in Cramped Rented Rooms in Seoul

Seoul is one of the world’s most expensive cities to live in. These high prices make it a challenge for many people to find affordable housing. As a result, an alternative to the conventional apartment has emerged. Called goshiwons, these are not apartments but tiny rooms that are large enough for a twin-sized bed and some prized belongings. Photographer Sim Kyu-Dong showcased these units—and the people that inhabit them—in a fascinating series of images.

Woman With World’s Longest Legs Embraces Her Uniqueness and Inspires Others

At 6'9″, there's no doubt that Mongolian-born Rentsenkhorloo (aka Renny) Bud is a tall woman. And while her stature is undoubtedly impressive on its own, her long legs are what make her height all the more awe-inspiring—they measure 53 inches long, which is nearly four and a half feet. To further put that into perspective, Russian model Ekaterina Lisina is the current Guinness World Records holder for the World’s Longest Legs, measuring 52.2 inches long.
