Tattoo artist Brian Finn (of Toledo's Infinite Art Tattoo) spends one day every week tattooing domestic violence, human trafficking, and self-harm survivors. The best part: he does it all for free. Since October 2015, Finn has been transforming these clients' scars into symbolic works of art that make them feel empowered. “It's just something I can do that won't take much time that can make a big impact on other people,” the artist told The Huffington Post. “A tattoo can help disguise the scars, so… it's like a new chapter.”
It all started when Finn met with several clients who wanted to cover trauma-related scars, but found that they were unable to afford the tattoos when it came time to discussing costs. Instead of continuing like this, the tattoo artist decided to set time aside so he could help these people for free and, thus far, he's designed five tattoos for grateful customers. Ultimately, whether or not these clients decide to tell Finn their stories, they're always happy to see the finished product. “There's definitely been tears involved–of happiness,” Finn revealed. “It's been a great response.”
When asked why he does what he does, the artist humbly laughed and stated, “It's just not being a jerk.”
