Artist Manipulates Reality in Mind-Bending Surrealist Sculptures

Hong Kong-based artist Johnson Tsang creates porcelain works of art with a twist—oftentimes, literally. He sculpts rubbery and realistic human faces that are distorted in mind-bending ways reminiscent of Surrealist paintings. Looking at each one feels like a view into Tsang's subconscious. In some of the busts, hands emerge from the head to manipulate the face, such as scraping through the facial features or stretching the skin beyond the skull to reveal empty space within.

Past and Present Clash in Striking Marble Sculptures That Appear to “Malfunction”

From Ancient Greece to the Renaissance, marble has been the material of masterpieces for centuries. And while we usually associate this stone with idealistic representations of gods and goddesses, French artist Léo Caillard has found a way to carry the legacy of this age-old medium into the digital age. His series, Wave Stone, features an array of classical-inspired busts that appear to “malfunction” right before the viewer's eyes.
