Indigenous Model Wears Accessories Celebrating Native Community to the 2022 Met Gala

Indigenous model and activist Quannah Chasinghorse attended the 2022 Met Gala with a glamorous look celebrating her Native community. The 19-year-old, who belongs to Oglala Lakota and Hän Gwich'in tribes, stepped onto the red carpet wearing a striking upcycled aqua-colored trapeze dress in tulle by Parung Gurung and a collection of Native-made accessories. Chasinghorse went viral at last year's Met Gala for a gold-and-turquoise dress dedicated to Indigenous culture and style.

Designer Spends Over 190 Hours Embellishing Dress With a Fairy Tale Landscape

French designer Sylvie Facon creates custom-made dresses that are fit for a fairytale. Her specialty practice involves embellishing delicate silk gowns with embroidery, beading, and even painting. One of her most recent creations features a romantic depiction of a bucolic, European landscape framed by a leafy border. The finished piece required over 190 hours of meticulous work.

Japanese Artisans Design Leather Handbags for Ultra-Specific Purposes

It's a beautiful thing when craft, so exacting and requiring such intense concentration, intersects with pure fun. Such is the case with The Fun of Carrying. Launched by Japanese leather goods maker Tsuchiya Kaban in 2020,  The Fun of Carrying is a design initiative in which individual artisans are given full creative freedom to create a vessel for carrying things—a bag of sorts. The first project to debut was Yusuke Kadoi’s Watermelon Bag.

Artist Creates Beautiful Hairstyles That Look Like Ornate Flowers

Who doesn't want to look like a flower in bloom? Vietnam-based artist Nguyễn Phát Trí transforms hair into complex floral designs that look like sculptural works of art. Each updo is made up of layers of gently-sculpted petals which create a mesmerizing flower that appears to grow from the person's head. Originally a biotechnology student at An Giang University, Trí moved to Ho Chi Minh after graduating to pursue a career in hairdressing.
