Local Historians Unveil the Oldest Known Photo Taken in Colorado

A team of local historians have uncovered what they believe to the be the oldest surviving photograph of Colorado. The photo is a daguerreotype taken in 1853, and predates the 1876 formation of Colorado as a state by over 20 years. This discovery is all thanks to History Colorado, whose historians decided to find the oldest photograph of Colorado as a way to celebrate the state’s 150th birthday next year.

Heartbreaking Photos of Gaza Conflict Win 2025 International Photography Awards

The International Photography Awards (IPA) announced the big winners of its 22nd annual photo contest and two highly contrasting series of photographs stole the moment. Palestinian photojournalist Abdelrahman Alkahlout was named IPA Photographer of the Year 2025 for his heartbreaking series of images detailing the impact that the ongoing conflict in Gaza has on civilians. Echoes of Genocide: Gaza’s Civilian Suffering contains photos that, while difficult to look at, are necessary for the world to see.

2025 Spotlight Awards Highlight Incredible Talent in Commercial Photography

The landscape of commercial photography is vast. Whether shooting elegant fashion spreads or finding creative ways to photograph a car, commercial photographers help shape the way we see the world. To honor their creative contributions, the 2025 Spotlight Awards recognized 15 photographers across a wide variety of categories.
