Each year, millions of dogs, cats, and other animals in the United States are sadly euthanized, simply because animal shelters don’t have the space to keep them. Another contributing factor is that too few people consider adoption when in search of a new pet. In a bid to change this, NBC and Telemundo television stations have been running an annual Clear the Shelters campaign, whereby hundreds of animal shelters across the United States come together to encourage their visitors to adopt a new furry friend.
August 18th, 2018 marked the initiative's fourth year, and included over 1,200 contributing shelters offering discounted or zero adoption fees. So far, it’s been reported that eager adopters from across the country have helped more than 10,000 pets successfully find their loving forever homes. Many of the new pet parents have been posting images of their latest family members on social media, showing not only their own delight, but their pet’s too!
