Photographer Captures Perfect Moment of Squirrel Leaping Over Water With a Nut

Cute Squirrel Photos by Dick van Duijn

Photographer Dick van Duijn has a penchant for being in the right place at the right time. Over the past year, he has captured memorable pictures of animals doing adorable things when they think no one is watching. His photo of a ground squirrel enjoying the sweet scent of a flower went viral in the late summer; and now, another of these creatures has gained him fame across the world. This particular image features another squirrel as it leaps over the water with a nut in its mouth. Surrounded by the backdrop of brilliant fall foliage, the little critter and the splashing droplets shine.

Taking pictures of squirrels can be tricky, and you’ve got to be clever about getting close to them. Van Duijn concealed himself so that he could see the creatures but they couldn’t see him. “I made this photo on Monday, November 25, 2019, from inside a hide/shelter in the woods,” he tells My Modern Met. Snapping this perfect photo required patience. Van Duijn was in a Netherlands forest from sunrise to sunset, but the time spent was well worth it. “I would never have dreamed of beforehand that I would come home with such a great dream photo.”

Van Duijn sells prints of his work, in various sizes and formats, through wall-art.com.

His other shots from that session are also adorable with a stunning mirrored effect on the water.
