The Savannah Bananas surely know how to put on a show. Having revolutionized baseball with Banana Ball, a unique blend of sport, spectacle, and shenanigans, they are often joined by celebrity guests who take part in the fun. The latest star to join the Bananas was actor Kristen Bell, who has become a household name since lending her voice to the fearless princess Anna in Frozen (2013).
The Savannah Bananas played two completely sold-out games at Coors Field in Denver in front of 100,000 fans, so there was really no need to draw a crowd with Bell’s star power. Instead, they incorporated her into one their musical numbers as a surprise. The Good Place actor unexpectedly emerged from the stands, descending towards the pitch as she sang “For the First Time in Forever” from Frozen while the bewildered fans looked on.
Awaiting her was Derek Klena, a recent addition to the Bananas who has dazzled crowds with his musical theater chops. The pitcher performed “Dancing Through Life” from Wicked, the show where he made his Broadway debut and established himself as a theater leading man before moving on to Banana Ball. The pair then launched into a duet of “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life” from Dirty Dancing. In a nod to the movie’s iconic choreography, Klena and Bell did the legendary lift with the help of another performer. The team posted this medley on Instagram with the caption, “The mashup we never knew we needed.”
Bell seems to be on a roll. Just a day before her performance with the Savannah Bananas, the actor joined her Frozen castmates to announce the latest entry to the world of Arendelle, Frozen 3, at Disney’s D23 fan event in Anaheim. “Doesn’t it feel like the world of Frozen is a little bit different?” Bell asked the crowd after revealing the first details of a new villain joining the franchise. The actor also confirmed fans will finally witness her character’s wedding to Kristoff, played by Jonathan Groff.
