Dallas’ Iconic Whale Mural Gets Painted Over for the World Cup and Sparks a Lawsuit

For nearly three decades, a massive mural of humpback whales, dolphins, and marine life towered above downtown Dallas, Texas. Known as Whaling Wall 82, the roughly 17,000-square-foot artwork covered two sides of a parking garage and stood eight stories tall. Florida-based environmental artist Robert Wyland painted the mural in 1999 as part of his global Whaling Walls series, a collection of 100 public artworks created to promote ocean conservation and raise awareness about marine pollution.

LACMA Commissions Limited-Edition Print by James Jean To Celebrate the New David Geffen Galleries

To mark the opening of the David Geffen Galleries, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) commissioned a limited-edition print by LA-based artist James Jean titled The Procession. The colorful, otherworldly illustration is inspired by an iconic lithograph that Alexander Calder created for the museum’s 1965 debut. Jean is known for his dreamlike, intricately detailed artwork that blends fantasy, mythology, nature, and pop culture.

RIP Marjane Satrapi: Artist and Creator of Graphic Novel ‘Persepolis’ Dies at 56

Embed from Getty Images Marjane Satrapi, the acclaimed French-Iranian artist, author, and filmmaker behind the graphic novel Persepolis, has died at age 56. The French government announced the beloved creative’s passing and members of her close circle told news agency AFP that Satrapi “died of sadness a little over a year after the death of Mattias Ripa, her husband and the love of her life”.
