Elementary School Students Learn ASL to Communicate With Deaf Cafeteria Worker

According to the Census Bureau, 11.5 million Americans—roughly 3.5% of the population—have some sort of hearing impairment, which ranges from difficulty in hearing conversation to total hearing loss. Despite how prevalent it is, very few people outside of the deaf community know American Sign Language (ASL). Photographer Celebrates Rainbow Hummingbird Wings in Beautiful Bird Book [Interview]

A decade ago, Rio de Janeiro-based artist and photographer Christian Spencer made an amazing discovery. At certain sun-lit angles, hummingbird wings transform into tiny fluttering rainbows. They become prisms in the sky—a fact that Spencer only learned after seeing the creatures appear in his film The Dance of Time slowed down to 5% of its normal speed. The discovery launched Spencer into a series aptly called Winged Prisms.

Astrophotographer Captures Stunning Composite Photo of 2022’s Last Lunar Eclipse

Astrophotographer Andrew McCarthy has us falling in love with our galaxy once again thanks to his incredible composite photo of the recent lunar eclipse. As always, McCarthy's work invites curiosity and asks us to remember just how incredible our universe really is. Lunar eclipses typically happen just once or twice a year. In 2022, we were lucky enough to see two lunar eclipses—one on May 15 and the other on November 8.
