Close Encounters With Sharks Win 2022 Underwater Photographer of the Year Contest

The prestigious Underwater Photographer of the Year competition is back and the 2022 winners are better than ever. Spain's Rafael Fernandez Caballero was named Underwater Photographer of the Year while Australia's Matty Smith took the title of British Underwater Photographer of the Year. Both photographers were awarded for their incredible images of sharks.

Animal Embroidery Made With Vibrant Bursts of Colorful Stitches

Self-taught embroidery artist Laura McGarrity uses a needle, some colorful thread, and numerous stitches to create compositions that look like Impressionist works of art. Her menagerie of subjects—from tigers to anteaters to squids—feature layers of different colors, making them appear vibrant and full of dimension. Based in Bothell, Washington, McGarrity dabbled in various forms of fiber art before focusing on embroidery three years ago.
