This stop-motion video by artist Peter Simon, aka Petey Boy, will remind you of the popular 80's toy Wooly Willy Magnetic Mustache, which involved moving little black pieces around Willy's face with a magnetic wand to make funny beards, eyebrows, and other creative facial hair. In this short video, entitled Ballpoint Barber, the artist's friend Tom Offer-Westort first loses all of his hair. Then, with the assistance of an interactive hand and “magnetic” wand, he gradually grows back a full head of hair plus an enormous beard.
To create the clever reverse haircut, Simon used 300 printed photographs of Offer-Westort at various phases. Without using words, the demonstrative subject seems fully involved with the design of each ‘do, using his happy (and sometimes sad) facial expressions and body movements to suggest whether he likes the look or not. Viewers watch as the bald man sports everything from an A La Souvarov moustache-sideburns combo to the ultimate finale, a full, bushy beard paired with an extensive mohawk.
