Beautifully Layered Stencil Paintings by Roamcouch

When You Wish Upon a Star

Japanese artist Roamcouch takes working with stencils to a whole new level with these gorgeous works. While on the surface, it may seem that he just paints acrylic on canvas, find out just how intricate his pieces actually are, and you can't help but be impressed. Taking up to a year to create just one piece, he's well-known for his highly detailed works that can require up to fifty different layers of stencils. Incredibly, each stencil is both hand-drawn and hand-cut by the artist himself. Roamcouch spray-paints on top of each stencil till he gets his desired depth and color.

You can watch the making of one of his most recent works, Rainbow Inc., below. If you'd like one of his prints, Spoke Art just released When You Wish Upon a Star, in an edition of 50 here. What incredible technique.
