Delightful Recipe Makes Bread Hippos That Peek out of Soup

A hot bowl of soup pairs perfectly with the winter temperatures outside. What makes the meal even better are when hippos are included. Yes, you read that right – hippos in your soup! Sandra Denneler created a recipe for this adorable Healthy Hungry Hippo Soup. She crafted the creatures with bread dough and used black-eyed peas and black beans for the finer details. When placed in a bowl and surrounded by soup, they look like wild hippos peeking out of the water.

This is a simple, fun recipe that can be paired with any soup you like. Denneler mentions that her daughter enjoyed helping her, so it's suitable for kids, too. In fact, it's a lot like working with Playdoh, except that you get to eat it once you're done. Denneler says that the trick to making these is to not overwork the dough. Simply form the hippos, align them on your baking sheet, and let them rise together. What a great treat – especially when you serve it up with this delightful Nessie Ladle.
