Beautiful Portraits of Old Shelter Dogs Who Have a Lot of Love Left to Give

Photographer and animal lover Stacey Gammon‘s landlord wouldn't allow her to adopt a pit bull, so she found the perfect solution to satiate her yearning for a pet: she began volunteering at local animal shelters. Gammon also offered to take portraits of the animals to help more dogs get adopted. Along the way, she met a blind, senior bulldog named Bella at the Newark Humane Society. Gammon didn't have high hopes for this endearing canine, since most shelters are overcrowded and can't help each and every dog they take in. Luckily, circumstances changed for Bella when she became a part of the Mr. Mo Project–a New York-based nonprofit that rescues sick, old shelter dogs who face euthanasia and places them in forever foster homes. The organization also covers all of their medical expenses so that these dogs can peacefully live out the rest of their lives.

Thanks to Bella, Gammon learned about the Mr. Mo Project and felt compelled to work with them. Inspired by the work they do and hoping to contribute, the artist photographed seventeen Mr. Mo dogs for a series titled The Gift of Golden Years. “This photo series shows that love is ageless and beauty comes in all breeds,” reveals Mr. Mo Project founder Mariesa Hughes.

Gammon adds, “These dogs, as I witnessed during their photoshoots, are so full of life. They have love left to give.”
