Dedicated green thumbs know how much of a challenge it is to grow a tree from a seed. Luckily, London-based studio Ilex Studio is looking to simplify the process by helping you grow your own mini forest at home with their innovative glass vases. The Acorn Vase and the most recently launched Avocado Vase are based on the principles of minimalism—the hourglass-shaped vessels feature an upper section for the seed to rest just above water, while the lower part allows users to observe the seed as it matures and produces roots.
“We have refined the traditional method of growing, skipping the toothpicks, and utilizing the opening to cradle the seed keeping it dry as it sprouts and encouraging the roots to flourish freely,” say Ilex Studio. “The sinuously shaped vase magnifies the roots as they prosper; creating a perfect focal point to witness the plant as it develops.”
Both the avocado and acorn vessels give a fascinating insight into the plants' first stages of life. The original Acorn Vase allows a young oak tree to thrive for around 1 year. It can then be re-planted outdoors so it has room to grow into a beautiful oak tree. Ilex Studio says, “Perfect for urban dwellers, tree lovers, inquisitive children and design enthusiasts to bring the magic of nature into their home and hopefully oak trees for future generations.”
