Düsseldorf’s New Opera House Will Feature Carved-Out Interiors, Resembling an Eroded Cave

Earlier in 2025, Snøhetta unveiled the Shanghai Opera House, an innovative structure resembling an unfurling fan. This opera house is just one of many performing arts centers that the Oslo-based architecture firm has designed, including the Norwegian National Opera and Ballet, the Busan Opera House in South Korea, and the Isabel Bader Center in Canada. Now, Snøhetta has turned its attention to Düsseldorf, where it will build yet another ambitious opera house.

Iconic ‘Rocky’ Statue Will Return to the Top of PMA’s Steps in Philadelphia

In the 1976 film Rocky, actor Sylvester Stallone, playing the eponymous boxer, races up the 72 stone steps to the east entrance of the Philadelphia Museum of Art (PMA). It’s one of the most iconic scenes in modern film history, and even led to the creation of a 9-foot-tall bronze sculpture in the 1980s. Now, after some debate, the original Rocky statue will soon return to the top of PMA’s steps.

Teen Civil Rights Activist Barbara Rose Johns Honored With Sculpture at U.S. Capitol

In 1951, a 16-year old Black girl named Barbara Rose Johns raised her voice against segregation. Her high school was in significantly worse conditions than the white high school in Farmville, Virginia. In protest, she led a student walkout that would become a key point in the American Civil Rights Movement. To honor her legacy, the U.S. Capitol has unveiled a statue in her likeness.
