Amazing Galaxy Painting in a Swimming Pool Lets You Take a Dive That’s Out of This World

Swimming Pool Mural by Ania Amador

Artist Ania Amador transformed an ordinary swimming pool into a stellar basin that is out of this world. Created as a commission, the outer space scene is painted in the base of the sprawling pool and adjacent jacuzzi. The resulting artwork is both massive in scale and impressive in its attention to detail. The composition features an astronaut, asteroids, and faraway planets surrounding a colorful swirl; it makes going underwater an extraordinary experience.

Amador worked closely with her client to come up with the concept for the swimming pool mural. “They wanted a space theme incorporating specific elements that represent their family,” she tells My Modern Met, “and I wanted to create a unique perspective that would change, depending on where you were standing.” From certain areas, it appears that the astronaut is reaching out for you.

At the time of painting, Amador was no stranger to working outside and had created murals before. Painting on the ground, however, presented a new set of challenges. “Getting in and out multiple times to get a different perspective throughout the process was physically demanding and time-consuming,” she reveals. “I dealt with drips everywhere from painting downward with spray paint. Fortunately, I was able to work some of the drips into the space scene, but I had to clean up and paint over a lot.”

Despite the difficulties—including finding the best protective sealer—it was a great learning experience for Amador. “I will definitely be doing more unique projects like this in the future,” she says. “I plan to paint an RV next so stay tuned.”
