Sara Barnes is a Staff Editor at My Modern Met, Manager of My Modern Met Store, and co-host of the My Modern Met Top Artist Podcast. As an illustrator and writer living in Seattle, she chronicles illustration, embroidery, and beyond through her blog Brown Paper Bag and Instagram @brwnpaperbag. She wrote a book about embroidery artist Sarah K. Benning titled "Embroidered Life" that was published by Chronicle Books in 2019. Sara is a graduate of the Maryland Institute College of Art. She earned her BFA in Illustration in 2008 and MFA in Illustration Practice in 2013.

Artist Spends 10 Months Recreating Iconic ‘Flying Dutchman’ Ship From ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’

Model building is not a quick activity. The endeavor often works on a miniature scale; and in doing so, it requires a steady hand and meticulous eye for detail. Illustrating this is Miguel Angel Blanch of Modelismo Naval para Todos (Naval Modeling for Everyone). He built the Flying Dutchman ship from the Pirates of the Caribbean movie over the course of 10 months and 280 to 300 hours of work.

Spectacular Photo Captures a Total Lunar Eclipse and Milky Way in One Otherworldly Scene

The total lunar eclipse on May 15, 2022, was a spectacular sight with many photographers capturing amazing astrophotography shots. Adding to this collection of gorgeous images is a unique photograph by Dane Smith. In one image, he captures the Milky Way and the lunar eclipse as they stand high above the mountains in Spruce Knob, West Virginia. All at once, his composition showcases the splendor of the Earth and the sky.

Daughter of Teacher Killed in Texas School Shooting Remembers Mom’s Bravery

The mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, left 19 young students and two teachers dead. The daughter of Eva Mireles, one of the educators killed in the May 24 tragedy, shared a touching tribute to her mom and revealed her bravery in the face of unimaginable horror. Adalynn Ruiz posted a letter to the late Mireles on social media the day after the shooting.
