Sara Barnes is a Staff Editor at My Modern Met, Manager of My Modern Met Store, and co-host of the My Modern Met Top Artist Podcast. As an illustrator and writer living in Seattle, she chronicles illustration, embroidery, and beyond through her blog Brown Paper Bag and Instagram @brwnpaperbag. She wrote a book about embroidery artist Sarah K. Benning titled "Embroidered Life" that was published by Chronicle Books in 2019. Sara is a graduate of the Maryland Institute College of Art. She earned her BFA in Illustration in 2008 and MFA in Illustration Practice in 2013.

Photographer Is Helping Overlooked Shelter Pets Get Adopted Through Striking Pawtraits

Maggie Epling knew that she wanted to give back during her summer break from college. Interested in photography and helping animals in need, she found the perfect volunteer opportunity at her local Pike County Animal Shelter in Pike, Kentucky. There, she used her camera to snap portraits of cats and dogs and paid particular focus on black shelter animals. The results are striking glamour shots of cats and dogs in search of their forever home.

Adorable Highland Cattle Calves Are the World’s Cuddliest Little Cows

You wouldn’t normally describe a cow as warm and fuzzy, but there's one breed that defies stereotypes with its distinctively long, textured hair. Known as Highland cattle, these cuddly-looking creatures don wild coifs—the longest of any breed— that cover their hooves and faces in adorable fluff like a dog. Highland cattle are originally from the Highlands and Western Isles of Scotland.

U.S. Women’s Soccer Team Scores Big and Will Now Be Paid the Same as Men’s Team

The U.S. national women’s soccer team has scored a major win for equal pay. In an agreement announced on May 18, 2022, the U.S. Men’s National Team and the U.S. Women’s National Team (USMNT and USWNT, respectively) will be paid the same. The new collective bargaining agreement also includes the “equalization of World Cup prize money” so that both men’s and women’s programs will be awarded the same.
