3,400-Year-Old Ancient Egyptian Painting Palette Still Contains Remnants of Pigments

Thousands of years before the ancient Roman Empire, the north African civilization of ancient Egypt was leading the way in the fields of art, architecture, and engineering. Many of their preserved creations can still be seen today in museums across the globe. In addition to sculptures, jewelry, and headdresses, some everyday objects can be viewed as well. The Metropolitan Museum of Art holds a beautiful painter's palette that dates back to 1390-1352 BCE.

Artist Creates Realistic Portraits Out of Scraps of Denim Fabric

While most artists use graphite or paint to render realistic portraits, others find ways to use more unconventional materials. Turkish multimedia artist Deniz Sağdıç has developed a diverse body of work by upcycling various found fabrics. Denim Skin and Ready Remade are two ongoing projects in which she uses scraps of denim to render highly realistic and detailed portraits of men and women.

Pixelated Paintings Reveal Colorful Cityscapes When Viewed From Afar

British artist Jason Anderson paints pixelated cityscapes by applying geometric swatches of color onto the canvas with a palette knife. These distorted views of urban environments capture the striking shapes of skyscrapers, houses, and bridges in a rainbow of pastel hues. As a result, each canvas vibrates with a rigid yet equally dynamic feel. Anderson developed this unique approach to painting after working as a stained glass apprentice.
