Tattoos are often a deeply personal artistic expression, both for the wearer, but also the tattooist. Vancouver-based tattoo artist Vanessa Dong channels her femininity and celebrates her love of nature with her incredible floral tattoos.

Dong’s black and gray tattoos beautifully adorn the wearer’s skin, and are often placed to elegantly wrap around shoulders, forearms, and thighs. Pretty peonies, sunflowers, magnolias, and more are expertly rendered with fine lines and subtle shading. Each delicate petal, stem, and leaf is applied with fine black outlines, while botanical veins are rendered in extra-thin strokes and minimalist dot work.

Before tattooing, Dong previously worked in a number of design studios, but felt like she was “stuck” and unable to artistically express herself in a corporate workplace. She made the decision to start over and pursue a career as a tattoo artist, and she hasn’t looked back since. Today, Dong not only gets to create freely, but her one-of-a-kind body art allows her clients to visually express themselves as well. She says, “Every morning I wake up and I feel grateful I get to tattoo everyday.”

You can see more from Dong’s blossoming portfolio on Instagram and book an appointment via her website.
