Architects Design a Senegalese Hotel Resort Built Around the Local Baobab Trees

A proposal for a hotel resort in Dakar, Senegal, is taking inspiration from the local culture to elegantly integrate with the surrounding landscape of massive baobab trees. Called La Reserve, the design was created by architecture firm SAOTA and has just been named a finalist in the World Architecture Festival (WAF) 2021. The hotel is designed to seamlessly blend into the surrounding landscape instead of trying to compete with the natural beauty of the area.

Sleep in a Giant Clamshell Villa at This Unique Island Resort in the Philippines

This proposal for the redevelopment of Tawi-Tawi’s island resort is characterized by massive clamshells that act as a roof over some villas. Designed by dada, the proposal includes villas, a restaurant, clubhouse, and new reception area. Though the clamshell is beautiful as a functional architectural feature, it also acts as a celebration of local culture. The clamshell form is elegantly abstracted to provide shade around each entrance to the villas.
