Few countries are as passionate about soccer as Argentina. As the home country of some of the best players in the world, Argentina showed up to the Qatar 2022 World Cup with high hopes and good chances to get the coveted trophy. As the last penalty kick hit the net, breaking the tie with France in the final match at the Lusail Stadium in Doha, Qatar, Argentinians at home swarmed the streets to celebrate—and it was all captured in a sweeping drone video by film director Ale Petra.

Although winning the World Cup is always special and history-making, the 2022 had additional meaning to Argentina. First, the team was led by a player who is now considered the greatest of all time: Lionel Messi. Now 35 years old, the famous soccer legend announced this would be his final run at the World Cup after having played in five tournaments, which included losing the finals in 2014. The championship put an end to a 36-year drought and gave the country a brand-new third star on their jerseys—which mark the World Cups they won in 1978, 1986, and 2022. The victory also had a bittersweet note, as the star of the 1986 team and soccer legend, Diego Armando Maradona, passed away in 2020.

While the drone footage of Argentinians celebrating the World Cup championship have made waves online, the truth is that they have been partying in the streets after every victory in the tournament, with crowds growing as the final stage approached. Petra also shared a video of the throngs in Buenos Aires after Argentina won the semifinal, and the footage is equally mind-blowing.

Every country has an iconic spot to celebrate these kind of victories, and Argentina's chosen spot is the Obelisco in the heart of Buenos Aires—that's the grey obelisk that towers over the revelers. If Petra's drone videos are any indication, the party seems to have been going on for quite some time and it's definitely not stopping soon. The videographer shared a video of the celebration still going on almost 36 hours after the team was crowned. And the best is yet to come, as the Argentinian government has declared a national holiday on Tuesday so people can follow the victory parade and cheer on their favorite players, who are now home.
