Every artist understands that practice makes perfect and just showing up is sometimes half the journey. Erika Lee Sears has taken this to a whole new level, with a passion project in which she has committed to making a piece of art every day. A self-taught oil painter and mother of two, she understands that finding time to create and dedicate to art can sometimes be incredibly difficult, but, as she has learned over the past year, “it is one of the most rewarding experiences and gifts you can give to yourself everyday.”
The ground rules for her project are fairly simple: make art every day (any medium, any size, as long as it happens), no giving up and no throwing away artwork. The cool thing is, her commitment is really working. “My project that I am currently working on is that I make an oil painting every day, and I am on year 2!” she excitedly tells us. “I share it every day on social media and it’s been quite a journey.” Browsing through progress posts on Instagram and her blog, one can take note of the development that has occurred over the months. She even left her corporate job in order to paint full-time, and has exhibited pieces around town and been featured in the TV series Portlandia.
Lovely watercolor landscape scenes and picturesque oil portraits litter the creative mom’s online accounts, as she proves that putting in the time and effort can really make a world of difference, in any aspect of life.
Erika's project began with a painting of a bear she saw in a dream.
And it has evolved from there.
Her growth as an artist becomes all the more evident as you scroll through her portfolio.
