Some people see the world for what it is, but artist Jonas Loose prefers to envision his own surreal existence. In his mind, a tiny polar bear takes a steamy dip in a mug of hot cocoa, and sea turtles aren’t meant to swim in the ocean—they should be flying instead. Often, this fantasy digital art is absurd, and the mashups don’t follow any sort of logic. But that’s the charm of Loose’s work; they are so bizarre that you can’t help but smile while scratching your head.

Loose’s images are born from a place of adoration. “My inspiration for such images,” he explains, “comes out of my affinity [of] nature and all the objects surrounding me.” The element of surprise is also important to him, as one of the goals of his work is to astonish us with unusual-yet-clever artwork. “Whether it’s sea unicorns, moon balloons, or flamingo ice creams, in my world, there’s nothing that doesn’t exist.”

Loose sells his quirky work as prints and iPhone cases in his Etsy shop.

Jonas Loose creates fantasy digital art that is a surprising mashup of animals, nature, and elements of everyday life.
