Eye-Opening Images of War and the Climate Crisis Top the 2023 World Press Photo Awards

The World Press Photo Awards, the world's premier contest honoring photojournalism, has announced its winners. Ukrainian war photographer Evgeniy Maloletka‘s striking image of an injured pregnant woman in Mariupol was named 2023 World Press Photo of Year, beating the work of thousands of photographers. Maloletka has been covering the war in his home country since 2014, when Russia annexed Crimea.

French Cyclists Create Record-Breaking GPS Drawing of a 637-Mile-Long Dinosaur

Four French cyclists have claimed the Guinness World Record for the largest GPS drawing by a bicycle team. Their winning piece: a 1,025 km-long (637-mile-long) depiction of a velociraptor that took 43 hours and 47 minutes to complete. The dinosaur's body was “drawn” over the course of six days, encompassing several French counties, including Cher, Saone-et-Loire, Indre, Nievre, Creuse, Puy-de-dome, and Allier.

AI-generated art is a controversial topic, but it’s undeniable that it can produce incredible imagery. Mieke Haase is a creative showcasing the possibilities of artificially generated art. They’ve generated a striking image of a clear guitar that’s filled with colorful blooms. The glass-like surface features florals that look suspended in the clear material. It’s reminiscent of resin art, although it’s completely forged with text prompts by Haase.
