Artist Reimagines Korean Folktale As Elegant Acoustic Sculpture Covered in Bells

Around the world, countless folkloric stories concern the origins of the sun and the moon. In Korea, that folktale involves a brother and a sister who, as they scramble to escape a wild tiger, discover an iron ladder sent down to them by the Sky God. As they ascend toward the sky, the pair transform into the sun and the moon, and, soon after, the tiger is punished, his blood spilled over a sorghum stalk.

Living 3D-Printed Structures Pull Carbon Dioxide From the Air

This year's Venice Architecture Biennale revolves around the theme that asks designers to consider how architecture can address global challenges by incorporating technology. The Canada Pavilion has certainly taken that theme to heart with its presentation of Picoplanktonics, living 3D-printed sculptures that give back rather than take from the environment. Picoplanktonics is the brainchild of Living Room Collective, a team of architects, scientists, artists, and educators led by architect and biodesigner Andrea Shin Ling.

Astronomers Reveal Stunning Thousand-Color Photo of Nearby Galaxy

Thanks to the European Southern Observatory’s Very Large Telescope, astronomers have created a thousand-color image of a nearby galaxy. The Sculptor Galaxy, also called NGC 253, is located 11 billion light-years away from us and can easily be viewed in the Southern Hemisphere with binoculars. But you've never seen it quite like this before. In a stunning high-definition photograph, astronomers have revealed previously hidden parts of the galaxy.
