Nomadic Photographer Continues to Chronicle Life on the Road with His Curious Hound

There’s the family that you’re born into, and then there’s the family that you choose. For years, we’ve tracked photographer Theron Humphrey and his trusty companion Maddie the Coonhound as they enjoy life’s beautiful adventures together. And, he hasn't stopped; Humphrey continues to document candid family photos with his beloved pup as they go boating, enjoy time on the farm, and camp among the tall trees. As time has gone on, however, the duo has surrounded themselves with a mix of like-minded friends who all share a deep bond.

The group of people—armed with guitars, sleeping bags, and wide-brimmed hats—showcase the joys of a slower-paced existence. In the hustle and bustle of everyday life, the images Humphrey captures are sure to make you wish you were enjoying the country right alongside them; if not for the great views, but the comforting companionship of Maddie. The easy-going Coonhound fits in perfectly with group whether they’re jumping into the water or taking a joy ride.

In 2013, Humphrey published a book that highlighted Maddie’s uncanny ability to stand on things. Called Maddie on Things, it was a huge hit. Now, Maddie and Humphrey are back with another photo book called Maddie Lounging On Things. It will be released in the fall of 2017.

For years, Maddie the Coonhound and her human, photographer Theron Humphrey, have traversed the United States.
